Lelia [lay-lee-yah] is afraid of bugs, especially ants, spiders, and caterpillars—they all have so many legs! But a series of buggy interactions, and her Abuelo’s (grandfather’s) reassurances, help Lelia become braver. Then a trip to the Butterfly House reveals that Lelia’s brother, Francisco (the tease), is afraid of bugs, too! A quote from the Dalai Lama precedes the story and a list of fun facts about bugs is included after the narrative.

Heart-centered, Values-driven, and Educational

Lelia’s Aventura is a glorious book for children - heart-centered, values-driven, and educational. As I read the story about Lelia and her loving Abuelo (her grandfather), I had a feeling that this incredible author, Deborah Burke Henderson, was weaving a colorful quilt in the form of a meaningful children’s story. Throughout the thirty-one pages of captivating content and absolutely delightful illustrations, Leila learns about the sacredness of every part of nature as well as the importance of bringing love and kindness to the world. Throughout the story, her wise and loving grandfather guides Leila through her fears of various insects, and in the process, teaches her about their unique purpose. At the end of the book, the author even has a section filled with “Bug Fun Facts” that includes their deeper symbolism. I was as fascinated by this story as my grandchildren, and the inspirational values and new facts not only expanded their world … it expanded mine, too.

Teaching the Wonder of Insects to Children … and Adults

I thoroughly enjoyed Lelia's Aventura as she discovers the reason to honor and love ants, spiders, and caterpillars with the help of her grandfather, Abuelo. I've read this several times to my grandchildren, and they hang on to the words as Lelia is first afraid of these tiny insects, and then learns why they're important. The illustrations draw the readers' eyes in a colorful and sweet manner. We adults who read this book to our kids and grandkids also learn a few facts and receive reminders of the necessity for our tiny insect friends. ~ P. Wight

A lovely story and wonderful illustrations.

This story was thoroughly enjoyed by my grandchildren. I immediately ordered another one for a family member who will welcome a new baby soon to add to their library. Highly recommended! ~ Dorothy
